The garden plot thickens

So far, the garden, tiny as it is, has been a good producer.  I've had quite a lot of little tomatoes and my basil plant is tall and strong - the leaves are sweet and fragrant.  The summer heat attacked my little growers with a vengeance.  I moved them under the trees near our stone wall and they've done well in spite of shorter hours of direct sunlight.

I'm already planning next year's garden.  I realize I'll have to build a raised bed and fence it to keep critters from decimating fragile babies.  I've also been thinking about buying a grow light and keeping indoor pots this winter.  It will be a good experiment, I think, to keep green edibles growing since prices will be going up in this economy.

Designs

The rolling images at the top of this blog are my design ideas developed at zazzle.com/cafecamisia and are for sale.  I'm passionate about recycling so many of my designs are recycle-oriented.  But there are other designs mixed in as well.

Basil Tales

Some sturdy basil babies got big kid beds today :-).  I thinned my 'nursery' pot by a few of the heartier plants not only to make room, but to sell the transplants.  I hope someone will appreciate some organic herbs for their table.

Things seem to go missing around here thanks to a generally absent minded household.  So I didn't have my trowel to use for the transplant.  I scissored a water bottle into a scoop.  I know, bottled water...at least I should get credit for upcycling at least once before recycling :-).

I watered in the plants and will check on them later to see if the heat is getting them down.  Hopefully by morning they'll have adjusted and rooted.  Since I used soil from the nursery pot for their new 'beds' hopefully they'll adjust.

A green snack

I was tweeting with a crafty lady who asked about a green snack.  Snow pea pods stuffed with cream cheese and the edge rolled in raw sesame seeds is a great snack!  The secret is blanching the pea pods and cutting a bit off each end so your sharp knife slips into them to split one side.  And be sure to use raw sesame seeds - toasted ones don't taste the same - not as good.  Guys seem to like this snack.

I Know What I Want to be When I Grow Up

It's taken me a long time to decide what I want to be when I grow up - I've traveled the US and overseas, I've lived in large metropolitan areas.  I've done the arts scene, the music scene, the fashion scene, the computer scene, the writing scene.

At last, I realized my passion is the green scene.  I'm all about planting, growing, recycling, upcycling.  Someone used to call me his 'earth muffin.'  I think he meant it as a compliment.  It was after I made a frontier garden in a state with the country's shortest growing season that produced a good crop.  Now I'm an urban homesteader by necessity.

So this is going to be my garden journal, recipe box, craft corner, design shop and more.  I will try to keep it interesting and current!
